Ultrasonic Welding Cell

The customer required a plastic joining solution for securing locating brackets for rear object detectors on an automotive facia (or bumper). The cell had to be able to utilise different tooling using only one Fanuc 6 axis robot, protect the A surface of the facia, allow for future capacity upgrading (additional robots) and accommodate different models and variations of the facia.

The delivered cell met the challenging requirements of the customer by incorporating automated quick-change robotic actuators (end-of-arm tooling), shuttling locating nests, a PLC library of different ultrasonic welding programs, and a unique spring-loaded ultrasonic welding actuating assembly.

Three such systems have now been supplied.
